Almost half a million Tesla vehicles are being recalled due to safety concerns
On December 21, Tesla announced recalls for 475,318 Model 3 and Model S all-electric cars due to two distinct safety concerns. The recalls were announced this week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), despite Tesla’s silence.
Tesla is recalling nearly all Model 3 cars built from 2017 and 2020 due to a reverse camera flaw. Model 3 and Model S have received 5-star overall safety certification from the NHTSA. The reverse backup camera might not always work correctly, according to the NHTSA study, because the wire fixture connecting it can be broken by lifting and shutting the trunk lid.
Model S owners have a much more serious problem. The vehicle’s front hood could open suddenly, according to the NHTSA investigation. There is no engine underneath that hood in electric automobiles, only cargo space. The good thing is that there aren’t just one or two latches that can fail. Whenever the main latch is disengaged but the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood opens suddenly, according to the study. All Model S cars built between 2014 and 2021 are included in this recall.
Tesla will examine, replace, and repair all Model 3 and Model S cars free of charge in both circumstances. There haven’t been many complaints of drivers having these problems, but there have been a few instances of trunks flying open and backup cameras failing on Reddit.
Tesla is planning to inform owners of the 119,009 Model S and 356,309 Model 3 vehicles via mail on February 18, 2022. It’s uncertain if the firm has indeed reached car owners online. Those weren’t the first or the last recalls by each model. Every year, tens of millions of automobiles are recalled, according to Motortrend. While disregarding these improvements may result in major potential dangers, Teslas nevertheless have a good safety record with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
